Rejuvenate Your Kitchen With New Appliances
July 30th 2010 -
Want to give your kitchen a new look? One of quickest, easiest ways, and one that can put money in your pocket is new appliances.
It won’t take you more than a few hours to rejuvenate your kitchen and add some color to it with some shiny new appliances.
Also, you should know that whichever appliance you decide to buy to replace your old one, it is not just your kitchen appearance that will benefit from this. Due to the ‘cash for appliances’ program, if you buy Energy Star rated appliances you may be instantly eligible for a rebate on those that are the most energy consuming. The rebate program is federally funded with $300 million from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, but the rules vary by state.
It’s not a bad idea if you use an internet search engine to check which appliances are eligible for rebate in your state as well as the size of the rebate before you launch your new appliances buying campaign. Amounts can either be a percentage of the cost, or a flat dollar amount, estimated at $50 to $200 per appliance by the Department of Energy.
In some states the launching of this program will suffer some months of delay. For example, Oklahoma will begin its program April 22 and is limiting rebates to one per appliance and two per household. Another regulation specific to this state is that owners will also dispose of the old appliances that were replaced with the Energy Star models. The program in other states has had an early launch and the funds were quickly exhausted Minnesota is one such state.
The rebate funding may be an excellent way to soften the impact the remodeling of your kitchen will have on your budget, but it should not be a decisive factor. Rebate or no rebate, new appliances can be rewarding all by themselves.
Replacing your old appliances with the newer energy efficient ones will considerably reduce your monthly electricity expenses along with rejuvenating the appearance of your kitchen. Only consider how much electricity a refrigerator will eat up, as it is the third largest energy-consumer in a household, and you’ll see the wisdom of buying a newer model.
Although the rebate program in your state may focus on your refrigerator and dishwasher, you can include your stove for $600 or so more, and give your kitchen a totally new look. Not to mention it takes less money and much less effort than installing new cabinets, walls or floors. While a remodeling job could leave you looking for a contractor and wading through a construction zone for days or weeks, replacing your appliances involves only a trip to the store and scheduling delivery. In less than a day’s time and with no trouble at all you can have an entirely different kitchen, more modern, more elegant and better-performing.
